Gosh what a negative, totally unnecessary & disappointing comment to make. But I noticed on your site that you still helped yourself to the plugin. What a complete lack of appreciation you’ve shown… :-(

      wonderful! thanks for your comment

  • Wayne John on June 7, 2011

Installed, still having issues though, the same as when I was beta testing. Ajax callbacks don’t seem to happen and the screen is left with the animated icons. I’ll leave it up for a few so maybe you can see the issue.

Seems to work here just fine though, so I’m quite confident the issue is on my end….somewhere.

    • andy on June 7, 2011

I think your site is having issues with ajax requests, is your waynejohn domain hosted on a different domain?

      • Wayne John on June 7, 2011

It’s self-hosted at my preferred host. :) I run Thesis also, might that have an impact?

        • andy on June 7, 2011

it shouldn’t make a difference. it works on a lot of other thesis blogs

I’ll have a look into it when things calm down.

            Found in var cl_settings:

I have my admin wired to https all requests…might this be the culprit?

Shouldn’t make a difference still, but I see in the js a few items that lead to believe that it possibly is. At least, it’s worth a look.

          • andy on June 7, 2011

            the https is exactly it!

if I set it to http then it all works

I will see about creating a workaraound

Thanks a bunch for the update Andy, and I’m glad to have been able to determine the cause too. I knew it was something unique to my environment causing the issue. Just took me a while to figure it out.

Loved it – great fun and not long and boring like some people who attempt to ‘sell’ their stuff by trying to freak you out with bad news. CommentLuv is all good news and I look forward to using it on the blogs I produce and manage.

Thanks for your hard work to deliver such a great solution for the blogging community.

    Best wishes

Andy, it just won’t install for me. It says I already have it, and I don’t. I had the earlier version, but I can’t find it on my site. So it won’t let me download the new version. Help !

    • andy on June 7, 2011

you will need to delete the commentluv folder in you wp-content/plugins/ directory using FTP or through your cpanel file manager

  • JamestheJust on June 7, 2011

The first time I heard of CommentLuv was (I think) from Kristi Hines of – or at least the first strategy of how to use it…glad I read her on it, my entire blog was built on the traffic from your plugin, Andy.

In the process, I’ve made a lot of friends, built a network and made a name for myself (in a small way). This is great that you’ve supported and evolved the plugin – you plainly rock, sir. Best to you.

  • Missy on June 7, 2011

  • Barry Wells on June 7, 2011

Hi Andy, great news!! I’ve installed it and its looking really good, thank you!

One concern Andy, when it comes to people registering on my blog I’m really unsure as i’ve never come across this before.

Could you make another video explaining this please, pretty please with cherry’s on top :)

    Respect and Regards, Barry

    • Tess Giles Marshall on June 7, 2011

Hi Barry, yes I’m in the same boat – I’m unsure of the advantages of people registering on my site when they register for my mailing list. I have the mailing list, but not the site registration.

      • andy on June 7, 2011

        Hi Barry and Tess,

I will see about making a follow up video about allowing registrations to your site and how to leverage that for your list.

  • Tess Giles Marshall on June 7, 2011

Great, ’tis done! I was a bit impatient though and tried to install it without reading your instructions to delete the previous version. Doh! Anyway, it’s now working and is really good, thank you. I know it’s going to be amazingly useful.

One question, and apologies if you’ve already answered this somewhere. I get that it’s a WordPress plugin, but does it work only with comments by people who also have WordPress blogs or is it cross-platform? E.g. can someone with a Blogger blog still take advantage of it when they comment at my blog?

And THANK YOU for taking the trouble to make these videos and the help videos on the plugin.

    • andy on June 7, 2011

This plugin will be able to add a last blog post for anyone that comments and leaves a url to a blog that has an autodiscovery feed which is most blogs.

    Thanks Andy,

I have downloaded & activated CommentLuv 2.9 with the link you sent by e-mail. Few questions:

I have been using Intense Debate Comment System with CommentLuv Addon provided by them also activated on my blog. Which means Intense Debate & CommentLuv both plugins are activated on my site. What do you suggest I do, to get the best out of both because I love ID Comment System also very much. When I try to click CommentLuv beneath the comment form, it takes me to CommentLuv site with both plugins installed/active. But I have also seen that when I deactivate the ID system, CommentLuv works as you described in the video. I have also got dashboardluvv plugin, but it doesn’t show the list as it should. Please advise.

    • andy on June 8, 2011

you should only use 1 commentluv plugin at a time.
intensedebate has a special version just for intense debate, it is not fully compatible with the wordpress version.
the dashboard plugin will only work with comments made through the wordpress system

  • Tony McGurk on June 8, 2011

Hi Andy, I thought I already had it because I had the pre-release version. Checked my plugin page & I noticed it was 2.9 whereas the pre-release one was 2.8.9 I think it was. Really enjoyed the videos, especially the 1st one was really interesting to see just how you progressed through the development of commentluv & how much work you put into it.. Great work, I’ve now deleted the previous & installed Commentluv 2.9. Out with the old & in with the new. Thank you for al your effort on this.

    • andy on June 8, 2011

great, now you have the very latest!

it has been a wild ride for sure, I’m glad it has turned out the way it is even through all the trials and tribulations!

  • Anne Lyken-Garner on June 8, 2011

Andy, you’ve outdone yourself. I’ve enjoyed the videos, and yes, I’ve entered the details.
Now all you have to do is send me the cheque. :-)

I’m off to check my inbox. I’m spending all of today indoors because of this miserable Brizzle drizzle weather we’re having today.

  • Idelish (Jeremy & Shirlene) on June 8, 2011

Thanks for the great plugin, Andy! We love commentluv and switched over from Disqus because of the new features you’ve built in.

We installed v2.9. It shows that it’s installed but we cannot see the “reports” that you showed on the dashboard. the Dashboard luvvers plugin is not there. What do we do?

    • andy on June 8, 2011

once you activate the dashboard widget plugin, it should show on your dashboard, it wont have any links in there until people leave some comments that have links on them

      • Idelish (Jeremy & Shirlene) on June 8, 2011

Ah so there’s an additional plugin we need to install? Did we miss this somewhere in the videos? What’s the name of the dashboard widget plugin?

        • andy on June 8, 2011

it’s on the third video here

          • Idelish (Jeremy & Shirlene) on June 8, 2011

Love it Andy – Definitely worthwhile to make those hearts spin round – how did you do it? 😉

  • vanita on June 8, 2011

Andy, is there a way to offer more than one recent post without signup? I think it’s great when my fellow bloggers choose a post that relates to my post, but i don’t want to have to push signup to give them that option. we’re all super busy. not everyone has the time or can make the time. i’d like to accommodate those bloggers too

    • andy on June 8, 2011

you mean the option to give ‘everybody’ 10 last posts?

sure! just go to the settings page and select ‘everybody’ for who to give 10 last posts to

      • vanita on June 8, 2011

😀 i was hoping for an in-between. a few posts for unregistered more for registered. eh, can’t please everybody. thanks for the terrific plugin.

        • andy on June 8, 2011

ah ok, you mean something like, if a user has x amount of comments then they can get 10 posts and being able to specify exactly how many posts to give each type of user?

guess what’s coming in premium commentluv? :-)

  • Carol Yates Wilkerson on June 10, 2011

Thanks for the great work! I have turned my entire community of travel bloggers on to the plug-in!

  • David on June 12, 2011

    Hi Andy,

11/10 for entertainment value in the videos, though I felt like nodding off in sympathy with how tired you look. You look knackered.

However, your brain seems to be working better than ever, and I am looking forward to using the plugin.

By the way, you will find me twice on your download list – with two email addresses, because after I downloaded with the email address I used to get the videos, I went back and input the email address I use on

I have dozens of email addresses, so can I go back and increase my chances at the $$$? – Just joking.

Is going to be relevant to the new plugin?

What happens to the additional URI I bought at Does that continue?

All the best, and may you go from strength to strength.

    • andy on June 12, 2011

I’m really glad you enjoyed the videos, thanks for your feedback.

I’ll be drawing the name out of the hat tomorrow and announcing it on Tuesday. will become a single site just for guest bloggers, there’ll be no need to register there any more.
once things settle in with the new version and then the premium version, I’ll see what happens with a membership site.

sorry to say that your additional url will cease to be, I have had a notice up on the purchase pages for some time now saying that they were going away. it wasn’t earning enough money to even pay the hosting bill so I had to set them to stop when I release this new standalone plugin.

      so sorry!

I miss CommentLuv very very much as visitors were just getting to appreciate the idea of it AND I loved to see the last blog posts commenters had made and take myself over to see blog and add comment if approriate. Nothing I can do though… we have tried everything but this latest wordpress upgrade literally split my site apart and over 50% of my plugins have had to go. V sad I am …… maybe at a later date things will fix who knows :) hope so.
Best of luck to you all tho CommentLuv is all about giving and recieving so keep up the good work Andy.
